Chef Schools Offering Vegan Culinary Arts
Veganism, though a small segment of society, has specific dietary needs. Chefs who can cater to patrons who adhere to this dietary discipline will find additional doors open to their professional advancement. In addition, many adherents of Veganism look for ways to learn culinary arts for their own care and that of like-minded friends.
Vegan Philosophy
Vegans neither eat, wear, nor use products that are animal based or the by product of animals. These restrictions include food containing meat, poultry, and sea creatures and the use of leather, fur, silk, wool, cosmetics, and soaps made from animal products. Reasons for one undertaking a vegan diet and lifestyle include a healthy diet, concern for the environment, and a desire for ethical treatment of animals.
Choosing a School
Short-course, single meal course are offered by many of the outlets of vegan products, but fall short of serious training. Some schools offer both vegetarian and vegan course work. There is a difference between vegetarian and vegan food preparation, so be sure the institution caters specifically to vegan food preparation. Check the instructor’s credentials. As with any culinary school, the cooking facilities should be up-to-date.
